Sometimes questions just need to be answered! This page contains Frequently Asked Questions & answers. We hope this helps! If your question is not listed below, please feel free to email the Dakota Adventist Camps [email protected]
Q. Do I need to register? In years past I could just show up on Sunday and pick my cabin and activities and pay and be a camper, can I still do that?
A. You must register ahead of time! We need all campers to register ahead of time in order to attend camp. We want to ensure we have everything ready for your particular camper! Registering will also help you, the guardians, give us the vital information we need to have a great week with your camper! You'll find it's easy and comprehensive! We care about your camper!
Q: What time should I drop my kiddo off?
A: Camper drop-off is from 3-5 pm Mountain Time each Sunday. Please note: both camps follow Mountain Time, which we call "Camp Time."
Q: Can I drop my camper off earlier than 3 pm on Sundays?
A: Unfortunately, no. It takes a lot of work to reset the camp each week. We have a lot of cleaning, inventories, staff meeting that has to happen before we are ready to receive the next batch of campers. So we strongly discourage early drop offs. If it is unavoidable, please note there is a fee involved, since we will have to reallocate staff to watch early campers.
Q: What time should I pick up my camper?
A: Breakfast is at 8:00, and we have staff meeting at 10:00 am sharp. Because of this, parents/guardians need to pick up their campers before 10 am Mountain Time. Parents/guardians who come later than 10 am Mountain Time will incur an additional childcare fee since we will have to reallocate staff to watch late pick-ups. Please be on time; campers are excited to tell their families and friends about their week of fun!
Q: Should my camper dress up for the weekend program?
A: We don't enforce a camper Sabbath dress code, but a lot of campers do decide to dress up. Some decide to wear nicer Sabbath clothing for the Friday night program, others opt for dressing up for the Sabbath Church program. We have no burden either way, we're just happy they've decided to join us for the week :)
Q: Does my camper need to have a physical before attending summer camp?
A: We definitely want our campers to be able to navigate the terrain at camp; there is a lot of walking that could require physical stamina. We don't currently require a doctor's sign off. But if you already have a copy on hand, it would be nice to have it on file. Please note that each camper will meet with our medical staff and receive a lice check before they will be permitted to stay at camp. We want everyone to feel safe and happy while at camp!
Q: If my camper runs out of money in their Camp Store account, can I add more for them during the week?
A: No. However, you can put in extra money when you drop them off for registration. We will return unused money to you on Sunday at camper pick up. Due to allergies, campers cannot bring in outside food, drinks, or gum with them. However, we do have approved snacks in our store. We also have shirts, water bottles, vinyl stickers, hats, jackets, etc., for campers to show their support and love for DAC!
Q: Does my camper need to be able to swim in order to participate in any of the activities?
A: We have lifeguards on duty during all water activities, and we require a lifejacket to be worn while on any watercraft. Being able to swim is a definite advantage, but not a requirement for fun! Each camper will undergo a swim test on camper drop-off day by our certified lifeguards.
Q: Can I visit my camper during their week at camp?
A: Absolutely! Our weekend program is designed to minister to the youth age group, but you are more than welcome to join us for worship--just as long as it doesn't distract from the program. Please let us know ahead of time if you are coming, so we will be on the lookout for you!
Q: Can my camper get baptized at camp?
A: Yes, please! We love having baptisms during the summer, and it makes for an extra Sabbath blessing after church. It would be nice to know ahead of time, so we can plan a program around it, and so you can invite family to attend. But yes, we encourage baptisms at the camp! We really want our camper's family to attend this special event!
Q: Can I call my camper during their week at camp?
A: You bet! Just know that they may be spread all throughout the camp & it might take a while to bring them down to the phone. Appointments are easier, because we can have them in the office prepared to answer the call.
Q: I keep calling the camp & no one answers, what's that about???
A: We do operate regular hours, however not the standard hours you'd expect a business to operate. Most of the work we do is outside and active rather than in an office setting. Our morning worship programming goes until mid-morning. We break for lunch and rest period, and then we're off serving the campers from recreation time through to the end of the evening worship program. But our office manager is in the office answering emails and phone calls from 10-12:20 and again from 2:40-5:00. If you call before 10 am or after 5 pm there is a good chance you will get the answering machine. However, if you leave us a message, we will get back to you as quickly as we can! You can also always email us: [email protected]
